The
Collaborative Modeling Unconference

Vienna
May 6th-9th, 2024

Our Camp

After decades of misunderstanding our users, we programmers now have better tools.

Collaborative Modeling makes it easy to build the software our users really need.

(And not the software we only thought they would need.)

Some Collaborative Modeling methods and mashups are …

  • EventStorming
  • User Story Mapping
  • Impact Mapping
  • Domain Storytelling
  • Storystorming
  • Context Mapping
  • Example Mapping
  • Business Model Canvas
  • Bounded Context Canvas
  • Scenario Casting
  • Event Modeling
  • Heuristics Mapping

However, our goal is not to pitch specific tools, but to explore their use cases and their relationships. We want to investigate the values behind the tools we love. Why does this new era of Collaborative Modeling feel so different from what many of us associated with ‘modeling’ in a distant past?

The Collaborative Modeling Camp (ComoCamp) is an unconference inspired by Agile Methods, Domain-Driven Design and Behavior Driven Development. We reach out to bring practitioners of collaborative modeling methods together with creators and thought leaders. We also invite everybody interested to be part of this event. Experience collaboration, discuss and share your knowledge! Our camp is not-for-profit, hands-on, community-organized, and meant to be a lot of fun.

I just bought my ticket for ComoCamp, The Collaborative Modeling Unconference in 2024. I still have many great memories of this unconference in Vienna from last year, it certainly was among my professional / conference highlights of 2023. You should get your tickets as well because this one will sell out again for sure!

I look absolutely forward to be there! Como offers us so many possibilities to work better with users and product owners. It will be a great pleasure to meet and connect with all the other Como consultants from all over the world. 🙏🏻 and Vienna is gorgeous on top!

I bought my ComoCamp ticket yesterday! Last year I had some Como FOMO, so I am very excited this is happening! This will be the first time I will visit an unconference. I am very curious what it will bring. Hopefully connecting with likeminded people and getting inspired 🙏🏻

Bring your own questions, ideas and issues!

The ComoCamp unconference is organized as a large open space. Join us in creating an engaging and dynamic experience where your voice truly matters! We believe that the heart of any open space event lies in the diverse perspectives and knowledge of its participants. That’s why we encourage everyone to bring their own topics to the table. Whether it’s a burning question, a fascinating idea, or a pressing issue, your input is invaluable in shaping the discussions and fostering meaningful interactions. By contributing your own topics, you help ensure that our open space is a reflection of the collective wisdom and interests of our community. So, come prepared to share, explore, and inspire as we come together to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and co-create a memorable experience.

Our Location

The Europahaus Vienna provides a comfortable atmosphere for relaxed collaboration as well as concentrated work.
We have direct access to the spacious park area and if the weather conditions allow for it, sessions can take place outside, too! 😊

Our Program

  • 09:00 - 18:00

    Hands-On Intro Day

Some of our most experienced community members will introduce you to three different Collaborative Modeling (Como) methods in a single day.

  • 19:00 - 23:00

    Intro Dinner

After an intensive intro day, you are invited to have dinner in the bistro. Maybe you already meet the first people arriving for the open space only? Yes, they are invited, too! :)

  • 09:00 - 17:00

    Open Space Day 1

The first day of the Open Space always starts with a marketplace. What will happen this time? It totally depends on YOU. Please bring your own questions, ideas and issues to the camp!

  • 19:00 - 23:00

    Orangerie Dinner

After the first unconference day and a little break to check in and refresh you meet for a nice dinner in the so called “Orangerie”, a particularly nice place in the hotel’s park.

  • 09:00 - 17:00

    Open Space Day 2

The second day of our Open Space allows us to inspect and adapt. What do you want to change? What did you not yet bring to the table? You reconsider and iterate!

  • 18:00 - 23:00

    Outro Dinner

After the unconference finale, you have a relaxed dinner in the bistro restaurant close to the first park entrance, where all the breakfasts and lunches took place, too.

  • 10:00 - 13:00

    Hiking in the Wienerwald

On Ascension Day, you meet the ComoCamp organizers and go on a little tour (max 3 hours max 300m altitude): with a little bit of weather luck leading us to a nice view over Vienna.

  • 13:00 - 16:00

    Pizza with La Mama

After our little hike through the Wienerwald, you reach a cozy little Pizzeria to share the very last lunch time together. Maybe some non-hikers will also meet us there? :)

How to participate

Please note that our tickets are non-refundable, but freely transferable, in other words there is no very good reason to wait until we are sold out. 😉 You may pay per credit-card, but we also offer to pay by invoice, feel free to choose this option during your checkout process. And by the way: the tickets do not contain any deductible value added tax (VAT), as the camp is organized by “Collaborate Vienna”, a non-profit association registered by austrian law.

Frequently Asked Questions

Any other questions than the ones listed here? Don’t hesitate to contact us!

Yes! The large conference room in the basement is accessible via a long and flat steel ramp in the courtyard of the hotel or as an alternative via a stair lift suitable for wheelchairs, which you might prefer in very bad weather conditions. The house also has two sufficiently large elevators with which all other floors can be reached. Regarding the suitability of the hotel rooms for your specific needs, we ask you to contact the Europahaus hotel and clarify the details directly.

After you have bought a ticket, we will ask you to choose your basic preference, ranging from a “classic diet”, which might include meat (without pork) to a “vegetarian” or “vegan” diet. On top you are asked to provide your special dietary requirements, which we will transmit to the kitchen, provided we have them four weeks before the event. Even though we cannot guarantee that we are able to deal with all your requirements, we promise to do our best.

Our simple motto for the camp is “Be open, be honest, be respectful!”. If somebody violates these principles in a way that you as a participant find unacceptable for our host, our camp’s reputation or a successful event organisation, please bring this to the attention of the organizers. The team will collectively decide whether a. a violation is occuring and whether b. the violating visitor is given a warning or is excluded from the event.

Our committed 2024 sponsors ...

The ComoCamp and its affordable ticket prices would not be possible without financial support. Thank you very much for making the camp fly!

... and our long-term media partners!

The ComoCamp is an open community of friends and long-term partners who help us spread the word with text and pictures on social media!

Our Team

Since the original idea for the ComoCamp in early 2019, a team of true believers went through "pandemic" cancellations, but made it finally happen! :)
